Sideboards – JKnowlton Antiques

The sideboard has been a mainstay of dining rooms since the 16th century. More often than not, these pieces were used to hold cutlery, china, and other eating utensils; much as today’s modern cabinetry. The sideboard became a common piece of furniture in a time before fitted kitchen cabinets existed.

The sideboard, or buffet, first became popular on the European continent, and by the late eighteenth century, they had become a common fixture in British dining rooms, as well. Today, they grace dining rooms as the main feature, second only to the table.

John specializes in period sideboards with beautiful inlays, fine wood grains, and good sizes. Please contact us if you are looking for a special size sideboard.
